We’re currently recruiting for a specialist New Business Underwriter to join a high-performing team focused on the Care, Charity, and Not-for-Profit sectors. This is a critical role with a national insurer, offering the flexibility to work remotely or be based out of offices in Birmingham, Leeds, or Manchester,  whichever suits your lifestyle best.

This is a 100% new business role, with each underwriter in the team working toward an individual target of £1 million in annual new business income. You’ll be handling inbound leads generated by the external sales team, quoting and converting manually underwritten cases with typical premiums of £10K–£15K. No e-trade or system pricing this is all about using your underwriting skill and commercial judgement. You can expect to pick up around one in three risks, depending on workflow, giving you real scope to make an impact.

You’ll be joining a well-established team led by an experienced manager and supported by a strong mix of senior and mid-level underwriters. The culture is collaborative, delivery-focused, and grounded in deep sector expertise. There’s flexibility built into how and where you work, but also a strong sense of connection and support across the team.

The ideal candidate will have experience underwriting new business in general P&C or commercial combined lines.  What matters most is your ability to apply underwriting judgement, work towards targets, and communicate effectively with colleagues and brokers.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a specialist, values-driven team where you can underwrite meaningfully, focus on interesting risks, and enjoy the autonomy of remote or hybrid working.

New Business Underwriter – Commercial Lines (Specialist Sector)
Location: (Remote – Flexible to either the Birmingham, Leeds or Manchester office)
Salary: Up to £50,000 + Sales Bonus

Are you an underwriter who thrives in a new business environment and enjoys working across meaningful sectors? If so, this could be a standout next step.

You’ll be joining a well-established, close-knit team of eight underwriters spread across the UK. Despite being based remotely, the team is tightly connected and supported by an experienced leader who values autonomy, expertise, and a shared sense of purpose. The focus here is 100% new business, with underwriters each working towards an individual annual new business income target.

What sets this role apart is the balance it offers: you’re aligned to a regional office (Birmingham, Leeds, or Manchester), but the set-up is flexible and working remotely most of the time is absolutely fine. The environment suits someone proactive, self-motivated, and confident handling commercial combined or specialist-sector cases independently.

Referrals are driven by an external sales team, which means you’ll be working reactively to enquiries, quoting, converting, and underwriting risks manually (no e-trade or automation). Typical premiums sit in the £10k–£15k range however will deal with higher value risks.

Within the team, there’s a healthy mix of experience including several senior underwriters, creating a supportive and collaborative culture. The business understands the value of technical skill and broker relationships, and while occasional broker meetings are encouraged, this is more of a desk-based technical underwriting role. Whether you bring direct experience in a specific sector, or you’re a strong commercial underwriter with solid combined/P&C exposure, this could be a rewarding opportunity to sharpen your expertise in a stable, respected environment with a positive team dynamic.

In return, you’ll receive a competitive salary, a bonus scheme and a comprehensive benefits package. To learn more about the role and overall package, apply today or get in touch.

    Marine Underwriter – Birmingham (Hybrid)

IPS Group is working with a well-known insurer to bring someone new into their Marine team in Birmingham. If you’ve got a solid foundation of insurance and underwriting, even if it’s in a different product area, this could be your chance to step into something new and exciting.

You’ll be joining a team that’s focused on renewals, with a bit of new business thrown in. The premiums range in complexity, so you’ll get exposure to both fast-paced, high-volume work and more complex cases. You’ll be building relationships with brokers and customers, learning how to balance their needs with the company’s goals, and gradually gaining confidence in your own decisions.

You’ll be supported by experienced underwriters who are happy to share their knowledge and help you build your skills in cargo and freight. It’s a team that values development and collaboration, and they’ll give you the space to grow while making sure you’ve got the guidance you need.

We’re looking for someone with around one or two years of insurance experience. You don’t need to be a marine expert, just someone who understands underwriting and is keen to learn.

In return, you’ll get a competitive salary, bonus potential, and a solid benefits package. The company also supports professional qualifications if you’re looking to take that next step. You’ll be in the office two days a week, with a bit more time at the start to help you settle in.

This is a great opportunity to build a long-term career in a specialist area, with a business that’s genuinely invested in its people, as this role has come about due to an internal promotion.
