Head of Finance
We’re recruiting a hands-on and commercially astute Head of Finance to lead the finance function of a privately owned, multi-site care home group with turnover of c.£25m. The group is growing steadily across Northern England and offers an opportunity to play a key leadership role in a business that balances purpose with performance.
You’ll work closely with the owner and senior operational leaders to shape financial strategy, drive profitability, and embed robust financial processes. This role is ideally suited to someone who enjoys being both a strategic partner and an operational leader – someone who can challenge the status quo, modernise finance systems, and offer real commercial insight to improve business performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the owner and senior team to shape financial strategy and business growth plans
- Deliver data-led insight to improve occupancy, manage costs, and optimise local authority funding
- Challenge operational assumptions and identify margin improvement opportunities
- Contribute to investment decisions, acquisitions, and long-term scaling of the group
- Lead all aspects of financial control: budgeting, forecasting, cashflow, P&L, and statutory reporting
- Own monthly close and provide accurate, timely management reporting to owners and board
- Oversee compliance with audit, regulatory and funding body requirements
- Ensure robust financial governance and risk management across all sites
- Lead finance transformation: automate manual processes and improve data accuracy
- Introduce smarter systems and reporting tools to support operational decision-making
- Streamline workflows across finance and operations to reduce duplication and improve agility
- Manage and develop a small team of four within finance
- Build strong working relationships with care home managers and regional ops teams
What We’re Looking For
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
- Strong track record in a similar Head of Finance or Finance Director role
- Experience in a multi-site, operationally complex setting (e.g., care, healthcare, hospitality, or retail)
- Strong systems knowledge and process mindset
- Comfortable working in an owner-led environment where adaptability and initiative are key
Salary: £80,000 – £90,000
