Development Underwriter – Care & Charity (Scotland)
IPS Group are delighted to be partnering with a market-leading specialist insurer to recruit a Development Underwriter into its successful and expanding Care team.
This is a newly created role designed to increase the insurer’s presence across Scotland, making it an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and relationship-focused underwriter who enjoys combining business development with technical underwriting. You’ll be responsible for building new broker relationships, strengthening existing partnerships and driving profitable growth across a well-established Care and Charity portfolio.
Operating from a home-based location in Scotland, you’ll play a key role in developing the insurer’s visibility across the region. This is a highly market-facing position and will suit someone who enjoys spending time with brokers, attending networking events and identifying opportunities to win new business. You’ll be given the autonomy to manage your own territory and make a visible impact on business performance.
The Care team is recognised as one of the leading specialists within the sector, writing business for a wide range of organisations including learning disability providers, mental health services, children’s care organisations, residential care providers, charities, not-for-profit organisations and other specialist care businesses. With a strong reputation and established market presence, you’ll have an excellent platform from which to develop new relationships and grow your account base.
Alongside your business development responsibilities, you’ll assess and underwrite new business opportunities, negotiate terms with brokers and ensure profitable growth within your authority levels. The role requires someone who can balance strong underwriting discipline with a commercial and entrepreneurial approach to generating new opportunities.
You’ll spend a significant amount of time in the market, meeting brokers across Scotland, developing new partnerships and acting as a recognised point of contact for Care insurance solutions. The business is investing heavily in the growth of this region, making this a high-profile role with genuine influence over future success.
We’re keen to speak with Underwriters, Development Underwriters or commercially focused insurance professionals who can demonstrate broker relationship management experience and a track record of winning new business. Previous exposure to the Care or Charity sectors would be highly advantageous, although individuals with strong commercial underwriting experience and the ability to build relationships quickly will also be considered.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated, proactive and comfortable working independently. You’ll possess strong communication and negotiation skills, a growth mindset and the drive to create opportunities within a specialist market. Existing broker relationships within Scotland would be particularly attractive.
