    Role Overview

    A leading specialist law firm is seeking an experienced Clinical Negligence Solicitor to join its expanding defendant healthcare litigation team based in London. Acting for a range of insurer, healthcare and medical professional clients, the team advises on complex and high-value clinical negligence matters alongside wider healthcare regulatory issues.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor with defendant clinical negligence experience to take ownership of their own caseload while working alongside highly regarded specialists on complex and multi-track claims. The role offers genuine flexibility, including hybrid working and, for the right individual, a predominantly remote working arrangement.  There is also the opportunity to work either out of the firms London or North West based office.

    The successful candidate will advise a diverse client base, including insurers, healthcare organisations and medical professionals, delivering commercially focused solutions and exceptional client service.

    Candidate Profile / Experience Needed

    Applications are welcomed from qualified Solicitors in England & Wales with a minimum of 3 years’ PQE and proven experience handling defendant clinical negligence matters.

    Successful candidates will demonstrate:

    • Experience managing a caseload of defendant clinical negligence claims from inception through to resolution
    • Strong knowledge of clinical negligence litigation, procedure, liability, causation and quantum
    • Experience dealing with litigated matters and complex claims
    • Excellent drafting, communication and negotiation skills
    • Confidence liaising with clients, counsel, experts, insurers and healthcare professionals
    • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines
    • Commercial awareness and a pragmatic approach to litigation strategy
    • A proactive and solutions-focused mindset
    • A genuine interest in healthcare litigation and defendant clinical negligence work

    Experience representing healthcare professionals in regulatory proceedings, coronial inquests or healthcare regulatory matters would be advantageous, as would advocacy experience.

    Key Responsibilities

    The role will involve:

    • Managing a varied caseload of defendant clinical negligence claims
    • Advising clients on liability, causation, quantum and litigation strategy
    • Drafting pleadings, witness statements, correspondence and court documents
    • Instructing and liaising with counsel and expert witnesses
    • Investigating liability and quantum issues
    • Negotiating settlements and attending mediations where required
    • Assisting senior colleagues on complex and high-value matters
    • Preparing cases for trial and attending hearings
    • Undertaking advocacy where appropriate
    • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal procedures
    • Maintaining accurate case management records
    • Supporting billing, costs recovery and file closure processes
