Senior Property Underwriter
Imagine stepping into a senior underwriting role where you’re not just part of the strategy, you’re building it. This is an opportunity to help establish and grow a new regional P&C proposition, with a clear focus on the mid-market and a predominant focus on property business. No endless chains of approval, no rigid structures, just you, your market insight, your broker relationships, and the platform to shape something meaningful from the ground up.
The Role:
This isn’t a desk-bound role. It’s for someone who thrives on being out in the market, building broker relationships, spotting opportunities, and driving new business while maintaining a strong, sustainable portfolio. You’ll play a key role in developing a regional presence, either in Manchester or Birmingham, helping to position the business as a credible and competitive player in the mid-market P&C space.
The role is heavily weighted towards property underwriting, with casualty forming a supporting element of the broader proposition. You’ll be underwriting mid-market property risks while contributing to the wider P&C offering, helping to shape appetite and drive profitable growth in the region. You’ll have the autonomy to make decisions, backed by a clear framework and strong senior support, giving you the freedom to move at pace while still being aligned to a wider strategy.
The Opportunity:
This is a genuine build role. You’ll be instrumental in establishing broker relationships, creating pipelines, and developing a portfolio from an early stage. It’s a chance to put your stamp on something, whether that’s developing new trading relationships, refining underwriting strategy, or helping scale a regional offering.
The Team:
You’ll be supported by an experienced and well-regarded underwriting team with strong credentials across both property and casualty. There’s a collaborative, market-facing culture, with access to business development support and senior stakeholders who are invested in the success of the regional build.
Who this role is perfect for:
You’re a confident underwriter with a strong grounding in property, ideally within the mid-market space. You enjoy the commercial side of underwriting, trading, negotiating, and building relationships and you’re motivated by the opportunity to help grow something rather than simply maintain it.
You’re likely someone who values autonomy, is comfortable making decisions, and enjoys being visible in the market. Experience with casualty lines is beneficial, but the core requirement is strong property underwriting expertise.
