Client Director
We have an incredible opportunity for a Client Manager who is looking to step into a Client Director role, offering long-term career prospects and the opportunity to work for a modern, growing firm of Accountants, on a remote basis.
Overview:
Client Directors provide strategic oversight and leadership across client portfolios, ensuring the highest quality of service delivery while developing and supporting the teams responsible for day-to-day client management.
The firm positions themselves as their clients’ outsourced finance department, delivering everything from management reporting and AP oversight through to VAT, payroll and year-end compliance. The Client Director ensures this service feels seamless, strategic and commercially valuable in the eyes of the client.
Client Directors play a key role in shaping the firm’s client experience and operational effectiveness. They act as trusted advisors at a senior level, supporting clients with high-level financial insights and strategic guidance, while empowering their teams to manage the day-to-day detail.
The key responsibilities of the Client Director are to:
- Retain ultimate accountability for client service quality and relationship success across their portfolio.
- Provide leadership, coaching and oversight to Finance Managers and Finance Associates, ensuring teams deliver accurate, timely and insightful financial reporting.
- Oversee client onboarding and ensure smooth transitions, establishing effective outsourced finance department processes.
- Support professional development and progression of team members, fostering growth and accountability.
- Review complex VAT returns in cases escalated by Finance Managers or Finance Associates.
- Review Annual Accounts prepared by the team, ensuring compliance with FRS 102 1A standards.
- Review more complex management accounts, supporting Finance Managers and Finance Associates in interpreting financial performance and ensuring outputs are accurate, insightful and aligned with client expectations.
To qualify for this Client Director role, ideally you will meet the following:
- Take responsibility for maintaining and updating your own personal and professional development.
- You should be ACA/ACCA qualified or equivalent.
- You should have 4+ years in a client-facing role within a professional practice in the UK, with recent, hands-on experience across the full spectrum of accounting work. While this role is primarily strategic and leadership-focused, you must be confident and capable of engaging directly in all aspects of accounting where required, ensuring seamless delivery and support to your team and clients.
- Strong technical expertise and knowledge of the wider range of services offered by the company are vital to identify work beyond the scope of engagements, monitor ongoing transaction levels and manage fee discussions with clients. This expertise also supports your ability to identify opportunities to upsell and promote other services to existing clients.
- You should have excellent IT skills (Excel, Word and Outlook) and be able to quickly learn and adapt to new software and processes.
